We were late starting today as we had a problem with the fish box pump. Captain John came and fixed it and then we were off to Sanibel Island. We found a spot with 20 ft of water and the fishing began. I put a Snapper on that I had been planning to eat but decided to feed to the fish instead. Soon after the bait was dropped the bites started coming. I reeled in my line to find my Snapper was there minus it's body. We decided to go for smaller baits in the hope of catching more shark bait. I had a 20lb wire trace with a strip of Spanish Mackeral which very soon got hit by a shark. The wire trace wasn't up to the job and the Shark bit through it. We upgraded the end tackle and Tim had a nice shark in the boat. More sharks followed.
On the way back to the villa Tim was trolling a lure back through the inlet to the canals. He caught a prehistoric looking creature that was hardly bigger than the lure itself. Turned out to be a Lizard Fish.
A very enjoyable 1/2 days fishing.
